Blackjack vs. Poker

Over the years, both Blackjack and Poker has competed for the higher popularity. There are casinos all over the world that choose to feature Blackjack, while other casinos choose to feature Poker (of course, a great many feature both).

There was a time where some casinos had to close their Poker rooms because there was no one to play poker. This was the time when Blackjack became the most popular casino game.

Since poker tournaments were televised worldwide (like the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour), which was greatly boosted by the appearance of popular celebrities, and incredible prize money, poker once again gained in popularity.

Nevertheless, Blackjack stayed on top and maintained its higher popularity. Even though Blackjack maintained its popularity, it was starting to become overshadowed, in visibility, by the Poker tournaments that included high-profile poker players, and impressive cash prizes.

This was before the "Ultimate Blackjack Tour". The Ultimate Blackjack Tour leveled the playing field, in regards to tournament play, with the "World Series of Poker Tournament". This Ultimate Blackjack Tournament features the best players of Blackjack, as well as the best players of poker.

Even though Blackjack has a very simple basic principle, and set of rules, there is skill involved. The simple principle is to beat the dealer by building a hand as close to the number of twenty-one as you can, without exceeding it. There are, however, still a lot of strategies that can be executed to increase the winning odds of players. One such strategy is sitting on a poor hand, playing odds that the dealer will bust.

Blackjack did not originate in America. The first known form of the game is considered to be the French game of "Vingt-Un (twenty-one). Only much later on did the game come to be known as Blackjack. The name came into existence when casinos established an offer of bonus payouts for the player who received a "black jack" (jack of spades, or jack of clubs) coupled with the ace of spades. The bonus seems to have faded from use, but the nickname stuck.

It was only in the 1930s that the game of Blackjack picked up in popularity. The game became the third most popular game played in casinos. The most popular game was Craps, followed by Roulette.

After the World War II, Blackjack's popularity soared high, and rose in prominence, to second. During the fifties, in the United States of America, Blackjack rose in popularity to become the most popular game ever played.

Today, Blackjack remains on top in popularity. It is played by almost every gambler, and almost everyone knows how to play the game. Many players are so addicted to the game that they attempt to master the game by developing more skill, and studying strategy.

Blackjack and Poker are two of the most popular games ever played inside casinos. No matter which game you choose to play, the important thing is that you enjoy the game.
